Founder of Conneautville, Pennsylvania

The POWER family in Conneautville, Crawford Co., PA originally came from Perry, Cumberland Co., PA. This family founded the town of Conneautville, which was formerly known as Powerstown.

Alexander POWER born 1761 at Power Farm, Perry, Cumberland Co., PA married Mary McNAMARA born 9 January 1779, Perry, Cumberland Co., PA in 1798. He died 13 May 1850 and she died 3 February 1817.

The children of Alexander and Mary McNAMARA POWER were:

• Margaret born 19 December 1801 in Conneaut Lake, Summit Township, Crawford Co., PA. She married 7 Mar 1820 to George B. FOSTER. She died 18 November 1887 in Conneautville, Crawford Co., PA
• William R. born 5 July 1800
• William born 22 February 1804 in Summit Township, Crawford Co., PA. Married 1826 and died 20 April 1879.
• James born 12 June 1808/12 married 1837 to Julia Ann HUBBARD. He died 23 June 1890
• Eliza born 11 May 1812 to Marcus HAMMON and died 22 January 1871.
• Maria born 3 October 1814 married Hiram HAMMON and died 11 November1886.

Alexander's father was William POWER who came to the US in 1754 from Ireland, and died in 1803 in Perry, PA. William's father was Samuel POWER who was born in Scotland and moved to Ireland.
