The following was compiled by Eugene Throop in 1974:
The Quaker Settlement in Conneaut Township was started by Isaac Paden, a prominent and very friendly Quaker who came to Conneaut Township from the Quaker Settlement at Redstone, Fayette Co., PA in 1797. They started holding their monthly meetings at his house in 1806. Later, meetings were held at the home of Cornelius Lawson who came in 1818 and because he lived in a more central location for all of the Quaker families. The Rushmores came in 1831 and settled four miles directly north of Linesville on the Linesville-Conneautville road. By 1840, the "friends" had reached their peak of about thirty members, so they built a log meeting house that year on the John Rushmore property.
By the mid 1850's the membership had dwindled by deaths and moves to the point that the society disbanded and meetings were discontinued. For some years after that the building was occasionaly used for local weddings and revivals. About 1900 the old meeting house collapsed. Nearly 1/4 of an acre was set aside behind the old meeting house for burial and this was maintained by the Rushmore family till they sold the farm (presently owned by the Lampmans). There are few remaining tombstones, the earliest was dated 1831.
