Hurd Cemetery is an abandoned cemetery located about 250 yards north of where the Shadeland "mansion" stood at Shadeland, about 150 yards east of route 18 on a small knoll at the foot of the wooded hillside. It was originally on land owned by Wines Hurd. Apparently the Hurds, Powells, and other pioneer families of this area used this cemetery until Spring Cemetery was laid out. At that time most of the graves and tombstones were moved to Spring Cemetery.
